Equity
Advancing fairness is the cornerstone of Abt’s work and an integral part of our programs and strategies. We partner with communities to create and implement approaches that address social inequities, disparities, and their expressed needs while supporting systems and policies that offer inclusive, accessible opportunities to all. We do so across several dimensions of intersectionality, including race, gender, ability, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, and class. We also live by this value internally, including through our Employee Networking Groups, which advocate for equity in the workplace. Our commitment to fairness is recognized by several global assessment and certification platforms, including EDGE, Action for Diversity and Inclusion, and Global Health 5050.
DEIA Organizational Development
Equity is the cornerstone of our identity, and we value it as both a process and an outcome. Abt Global works with our partners to foster a more diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible workplace and integrate these principles into their programming, practices, and systems of accountability. We assist clients to improve their organizational performance by reflecting on their values and aligning their strategy, policies, practices, and programming with diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) values. This includes conducting assessments to identify areas for improvement, developing strategies and action plans to promote diversity and inclusion, providing DEIA training and workshops for employees and leadership, implementing policies and procedures to support equity and accessibility, and measuring progress through data analysis and evaluation. In addition, we offer mandatory DEIA training courses for our staff that cover topics including transgender and gender-diverse identities, casteism, colorism, and ableism.
Gender Equality, Disability Equity & Social Inclusion
Gender equality, disability equity, and social inclusion (GEDSI) are urgent goals on their own and as cross-cutting themes critical to achieving sustainable impacts in health, economic development, agriculture, education, energy, and climate programming. Abt Global conducts rigorous analysis to identify GEDSI gaps and works with local populations to develop and deliver sustainable solutions. In our delivery of global development programs, we center the experiences, values, and needs of the people we serve and consider their multiple and intersecting vulnerabilities and strengths. Our goal is to advance the agency, empowerment, and leadership of marginalized and minoritized people to promote health and economic well-being for all.
Abt abides by the core principles of “do no harm” and “nothing about us without us.” We engage those most affected by discrimination to lead design, planning, implementation, and evaluation of strategies, projects, and policies, supported by our technical expertise. Together, we tackle complex issues such as bias in databases and community approaches to youth homelessness.
